The Green Justice Team wants everyone to know what’s in the works, especially activities. We’re planning a church service on April 19th to honor Earth Day and will have a table to provide more information, do a survey to find out what people are passionate about, and have a sign-up sheet of projects to inspire you.
Spring is planting time and we’re arranging a native plant sale in May to start our participation in the Homegrown National Park movement. This is a nation-wide project to nativize habitat by supporting soil health, encourage insects and birds, and replacing unhealthy habits of chemical and land use. This starts by replacing out-of-place plants with natives: start small! Put a pot on your patio with a native plant in it; reduce the size of your lawn by putting in a native bush!
Other concerns the Team is working on are replacing bleached paper use in kitchen and bathrooms with brown paper products, renewing the Green Sanctuary status of the UUCA, and helping the Gardening Team fill the new raised beds when the dirt arrives in May. We are also looking to help the Village of Williamsville with their spring cleanup and schedule a session with Buffalo Niagara Waterkeepers Clean Sweep. Stay tuned!
