Fun(d)raising
Spring and Fall Spaghetti Dinners–All church activity that needs cooks and servers. Also includes a bake sale and this year a basket sale.
Rummage Sale–All church Spring event that requires many helping hands to collect items, set-up, price, manage for 2-3 intense weeks. Well worth it because it is almost entirely pure profit.
Dining for Dollars–Special dinners, brunches, parties hosted by you–you decide on what you want to do, for how many and a reasonable charge. You donate the your time, talent and the cost for event, and the church benefits from the money raised.
TOPS Case for Causes–Almost every Sunday you can find your friendly TOPS card seller in the Emerson Room. We also have been exchanging TOPS cards for Tim Horton cards so you can get your Time Fix and help the UUCA. Thinking of spending some money at Hope Depot, Lowes or Southwest Airlines? You can exchange your TOPS cards for these and other gift cars at your local TOPS store. Call Judy if you need a large order. The UUCA makes 5% on each purchase.
Coffee Houses–Last year, Music Committee lined up Lee Ron Zydeco (Cajun), Buffalo Dolls (swing), Orange Sky (House Band of First Unitarian Rochester), Jerry Timlin (Irish) to name a few. Not so much a money maker, but a good time.
GoodSearch/GoodShop.com–An on-line shopping portal to many of your favorite sites that gives a percentage to the UUCA when you designate it as the recipient when you register (for example, UUCA gets 4% if you use GoodShop to go to Expedia for a travel purchase). If GoodShop doesn’t give a percentage you can still reach your internet and perhaps find a discount coupon to use.
smile.amazon.com–an easy way to get into legacy giving, especially if you use Amazon. A percentage of your purchase will go to UU Church of Amherst Endowment Trust when you register and designate our Endowment as the recipient.
In addition, the religious education program and the youth group may run fundraisers for special programs or trips. These have included pancake breakfasts, soup, bake sales. It brings a smile and a warm feeling to support these activities.
Capital Improvement: Roof Fund
From time to time, a project crops up that is necessary for maintaining our facilities. The roof of the chapel has reached the end of its life expectancy and needs to be replaced. The congregation has authorized the Board of Trustees to proceed with this costly repair. The new roof will be consistent with our 7th principle and Green Sanctuary commitment–it will be insulated and properly vented, increasing its R value from 3 to 25! The Board has established a Roof Fund to accept donations to help offset some of the costs of this project.
Any member or friend of UUCA may contribute to this fund at any time. But sooner is better. You may contribute:
- with cash in the collection plate–please place in an envelope with your name and label it “Roof Fund.”
- with a check in the collection plate or mailed to the church–mark “Roof Fund” in the memo line
- by credit card–in person at the office during office hours OR by calling the office–716-634-3010–during office hours OR call or write Yvonne Stocker at any time yvonnestocker@gmail.com 716-278-0176
