Wherever there is fire, there shall be light!

Every Sunday, we speak of the fire of commitment, and the light of truth. These are the cornerstones of our faith. To be a Unitarian Universalist is to recognize that there is truth in this world, just waiting to be discovered.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

The Chalice and the Flame

As ours is a covenantal faith, our calling is to create the safe and sacred space where truth can be discovered. This is the fire of our commitment, to both ourselves and to one another—to create the safe and sacred space where the personal search for truth and meaning may be shared.

We each have our own personal truth, our own unique light to cast upon the world, to be shared with one another. When we share our light with one another, together, we become something greater than we are when we are alone. Our gifts are brighter. Our insights are deeper. Our compassion becomes boundless. The Flame-in-Hand

And so, the symbol of our congregation, The Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst, is the flame of truth, held within the open hand of friendship. The abundance of our light inspires us to discover new ideas, to celebrate the life we share together, and to serve both one another and the community of which we are a part.
