The Environmental Impact of Food Waste

Learn how food handling in your home and composting can make a positive impact on the environment. Food
Waste makes up more than one-fifth of the garbage that is sent to landfills. As we run out of landfill space,
New York is working on diverting this waste from the largest contributors in the state. We will be talking about
ways to reduce your personal contributions to the landfill.
Our Speaker, John Szalasny, is an Executive Committee Member with the Sierra Club Niagara Group, Chair of
the Town of Amherst’s Recycling and Waste Committee, and a contributing feature writer for Buffalo Rising,
an online news and events publication focused on the Western New York region.
