A covenant group is a small group of people who meet monthly to reflect on and discuss significant life topics. UU Amherst use the Soul Matters curriculum and the monthly themes are also aligned with Rev. Michelle’s worship services. Small groups lead to deep connections.  During the group’s exploration, trust is built and explorations lead to not just a deeper connection to the group, but also to the self and one’s own life journey to discover the sacred.

Each group creates a covenant of expectations to guide the conversation and create the safe space for courageous exploration of ideas and sharing of personal stories.

Meetings are carefully structured and typically last for about 90 minutes. Led by a trained facilitator, meetings open with a chalice lighting and check-in. The same prompts are used by all facilitators which helps connect covenant groups to one another and the wider church community.  However, there is freedom within the group to choose which readings and other content fit the group dynamics best. The commitment is for a Sept-June church year, although during Covid these continued to meet during the Summer via ZOOM .
