Social Justice
Collective social justice activity is an integral part of UU Amherst and necessary for living out our UU principles.
Our Social Justice Team, pre-Covid, met monthly, but is now communicating via emails and church communication channels. Contact Pat Burke via administrator@uuamherst.org or 634-3010 for more information
The team interfaces with Black Lives Matters, Green Sanctuary, Amherst Little Green Pantry, LGBTQ+ Welcoming Congregation. It is our direct link with Voice Buffalo, keeping the congregation informed of community justice activities and restorative justice and activist training opportunities. During the year, the team sponsors speakers and share the plate collections, maintains a social and environmental justice library, and leads an all-church book discussion on a justice topic.
Prior to the pandemic, the Social Justice Team coordinated monthly volunteer groups to Friends of the Night People and, with UU Buffalo, helped with Family Promise every other month.
